The festive season is nearly upon us and for many people the anxiety is already building about what to buy. We all have someone in our family who feels impossible to buy for and with budgets stretched ever tighter, choosing thoughtful gifts can be tricky.
We’re here to reassure you that Christmas gift buying doesn’t have to be a chore! You definitely don’t have to spend a fortune and with a little bit of time and effort you can create beautiful looking gifts for all of your friends and family.
Create a pamper hamper
Have you ever been given a hamper? There is something strangely decadent feeling about a collection of products all packaged together in a basket, even if it is all things you might normally buy anyway! Hampers needn’t be expensive – if you can’t afford to splash out one ready-made then simply buy an empty wicker basket and fill it yourself with inexpensive, indulgent treats. A good basket can then be reused for storage, making it the gift that keeps on giving!

One of the things people dislike about Christmas is the mass commercialism and impersonal feel of gift giving – no one wants to end up with a pile of generic bubble bath sets do they? You can avoid this faceless feel easily by opting for a personalised gift that really means something to the person you are giving it to. Whether it’s a calendar of family photos, a fabulous canvas print or a set of personalised mugs it’s a great way to show you’ve put the effort in without spending a fortune.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but how about judging a present by its wrapping? Even if you can’t afford to spend a lot on a gift, putting in a bit of effort on the presentation can make even the simplest gift look extra special. If you’re not sure where to start, how about checking out some Pinterest boards for inspiration? We love this wrapping board from interiors blogger and journalist Rin Hamburgh.

A hand-made Christmas
If you’re buying Christmas gifts on a budget and are handy with a whisk or glue gun then you’re in luck! The hand-made Christmas trend looks set to last this year and the internet is awash with ideas and inspiration. Check out Pinterest to get the ball rolling or head over to All About You and take a look at their Christmas gift guide, packed with over 200 crafty ideas.
Any decent fashionista will tell you it’s all about the accessories and the same rule can apply to Christmas gifts. As well as making sure everything is well wrapped you can add an extra personal touch by making your own cards and gift tags. If you’ve got kids, get them involved too for extra cute points! We love Red Ted Art for card making ideas, particularly these adorably festive gingerbread men.
